Project and Program Governance

Your need

Poor track record? Increasingly complex projects on the horizon? Whatever the reason, you know your organisation needs systemic improvements in delivering projects.

Helmsman's approach

We don’t believe in a generic, ‘one size fits all’ approach. Instead we look for areas with the highest leverage given your company culture, execution capability and project portfolio characteristics. First, we use an evidence-based approach, underpinned by research, to answer the following questions:

  • What is the inherent complexity of the future project portfolio, and how is this different from past projects?
  • What is the current performance level for all execution related areas and capabilities?
  • What are the areas with the highest leverage given your company culture and future challenges?
  • How do we get the organisation to accept the change and what is the underlying case for action?

We then work with the key project people and stakeholders to develop an overall approach. Our aim is to build capability not dependency, so we exit as soon as the team is in a position to deliver the plan.
